RAINS

In the month of Asar, farmers wait eagerly for rains. It is the season of agriculture. For agriculture, water is necessary. Water is supplied by rain.

We get rain from the water of the seas. Sea water is heated and changed into vapor. The vapor rises high in the sky and collects in the form of clouds. The clouds rise high and become cool. On being cooled, they condense into water and fall down in the form of rains.

In Nepal, we have rains mainly in the months of Asar, Saun, and Bhadau. The rains are caused by clouds coming from the Bay of Bengal. The clouds are stopped by the Himalayas, rise high, become cooled and fall down in the form of rains. As the clouds come from the east, the rainfall is higher in the east than in the west. Rainfall is different in different parts of the world. Some partshave heavy rainfall, some moderate, some low, and some little rainfall.

The region which has little rainfall forms into a desert. Some parts have rains in summer, some in winter, and some throughout the year. Rains are very useful to us. They supply water for agriculture. They fill rivers, lakes, and ponds. They cool down the heated surface of the earth. They wash away dirt and filth and save us from diseases.

Rainwater is the purest form of water found in Nature. It is flat in taste. It is not good for drinking. Too much rainfall is harmful. It causes floods, and destroys houses, fields, roads, and bridges. When there is heavy rainfall, we cannot go out to work. Poor people are hard-hit by this.
