"THE CINEMA"  "चलचित्र"

The word "cinema" is the short form of cinematograph. A cinematograph is a machine for showing moving pictures. These pictures are shown on a white screen. At first, the pictures produced only movements but no sound. They were called "movies". Nowadays, pictures produce also sound. They are called "Talkies".

The moving pictures are taken by movie cameras on celluloid film. The taking of pictures is called "shooting". There are two kinds of shooting, indoor and outdoor. Sometimes, pictures of real objects are taken. This is outdoor shooting. Generally, artificial objects represent real ones. The pictures of such objects are taken inside a studio. This is indoor shooting. A studio is a place where films are prepared. There are two kinds of films, feature, and documentary. Long films are called feature films, while short ones are called documentaries!

The cinema is a medium of entertainment. Films show beautiful scenes and interesting stories. Our minds are amused when we see them. Many people visit the cinema for pleasure. The cinema is also a medium of education. We can learn many things from films. We can know the history and geography of a country, the habits, and customs of the people, the lives of great men, the scenes of great events, and the stories of famous novels and dramas.

The cinema has also a dark side. Some films are bad and leave a bad effect on our character. We learn bad things like smoking. drinking, gambling, fighting, cheating, etc. Students should not see bad films.

 "चलचित्र"

"सिनेमा" शब्द सिनेमाटोग्राफको छोटो रूप हो। सिनेम्याटोग्राफ चलिरहेको चित्रहरू देखाउने मेसिन हो। यी चित्रहरू सेतो स्क्रिनमा देखाइएका छन्। सुरुमा, तस्विरहरूले केवल आन्दोलनहरू उत्पादन गरे तर कुनै आवाज थिएन। तिनीहरूलाई "चलचित्र" भनिन्थ्यो। आजकल तस्विरले पनि आवाज निकाल्छ । तिनीहरूलाई "Talkies" भनिन्छ

चलिरहेको तस्बिरहरू सेलुलोइड फिल्ममा चलचित्र क्यामेराहरूद्वारा खिचिएका छन्। तस्बिर खिच्नुलाई ‘सुटिङ’ भनिन्छ। त्यहाँ इनडोर र आउटडोर गरी दुई प्रकारका सुटिङहरू छन्। कहिलेकाहीँ, वास्तविक वस्तुहरूको चित्रहरू लिइन्छ। यो आउटडोर सुटिङ हो। सामान्यतया, कृत्रिम वस्तुहरूले वास्तविक वस्तुहरूलाई प्रतिनिधित्व गर्दछ। त्यस्ता वस्तुहरूको तस्बिरहरू स्टुडियो भित्र खिचिन्छन्। यो इनडोर सुटिङ हो। स्टुडियो भनेको फिल्म तयार गर्ने ठाउँ हो। फिचर र डकुमेन्ट्री गरी दुई किसिमका चलचित्र हुन्छन् । लामो फिल्मलाई फिचर फिल्म भनिन्छ भने छोटो फिल्मलाई डकुमेन्ट्री भनिन्छ!

सिनेमा मनोरञ्जनको माध्यम हो । चलचित्रहरूले सुन्दर दृश्यहरू र रोचक कथाहरू देखाउँछन्। उनीहरुलाई देख्दा हाम्रो मन रमाईलो हुन्छ । धेरै मानिसहरु रमाइलोको लागि सिनेमा हेर्न आउँछन्। सिनेमा शिक्षाको माध्यम पनि हो । फिल्मबाट हामीले धेरै कुरा सिक्न सक्छौं। हामीले कुनै पनि देशको इतिहास र भूगोल, जनताको बानी र चलन, महापुरुषहरूको जीवन, ठूला घटनाका दृश्यहरू, प्रसिद्ध उपन्यास र नाटकका कथाहरू जान्न सक्छौं।

सिनेमाको अँध्यारो पक्ष पनि छ । कतिपय चलचित्र नराम्रा हुन्छन् र हाम्रो चरित्रमा नराम्रो असर पार्छ । हामीले धुम्रपान जस्ता नराम्रा कुराहरू सिक्छौं। मदिरा, जुवा, झगडा, ठगी आदि विद्यार्थीले नराम्रो चलचित्र हेर्नुहुँदैन ।
