There was once a farmer who had a wife. The couple had a little boy. The farmer kept a mongoose as a pet. The mongoose and the young boy got along well. They made excellent playmates.
The farmer was working on his crops one day. To go to the market, the farmer's wife had departed. The young child was sound sleeping in a cradle. The mongoose was dozing off next to the crib.
The tiny child was in danger when a snake found its way into the house. The mongoose leapt up after giving the snake a sniff. He engaged the cobra in combat. The cobra started to strike. The cobra and the mongoose engaged in a violent battle. Finally, the cobra was bit and killed by the mongoose.
The farmer's wife was seen by the mongoose coming back from the market. He joyfully hurried in her direction to meet her. She noticed blood on the mongoose's paws and lips. The farmer's wife believed that her son had been assaulted by a mongoose.
The farmer's wife hurried into the house after striking the mongoose hard with a long stick. When she looked down to discover a dead snake next to her son, she was horrified. She recognized her error now. She was beyond upset.
