The Shadow of Ass

An ass was rented by one guy from another.

To rent him the ass for the day, he paid him two shillings.

 Both males wanted to stand in the ass's shade since it was a very hot day and they wanted to stay cool.

However, there was only enough space for one of them.

The man who had employed the ass said, "Go away." Then leave! Today, it is my shadow. I've got the ass on staff.

The owner remarked, "You hired the ass, but you didn't employ his shadow. I am its shadow.

The owner continued to speak, while the hirer continued to say one thing. 
They started fighting after that, and one of them accidentally smacked the other in the behind.
